Split dinner with friends fairly (without the awkward math)

The classic post-restaurant dilemma: someone ate light, someone ate heavy, someone paid upfront, and then there's service charge and VAT. Splitting evenly rarely feels fair. This guide walks you through a simple fix, with real numbers and a button to create your bill right away.

Problems we run into all the time

  • Someone ate less but still pays the same as everyone else
  • Service charge and VAT make the total hard to figure out
  • After the meal, nobody knows who owes whom how much

Why splitting evenly isn't fair

Say the subtotal is ฿1,000 for 4 people, but one person ordered very little — splitting evenly at ฿250 each means the light eater overpays immediately.

Subtotal
฿1,000
Split 4 ways
฿250/person

If you only ordered ~฿120 but have to pay ฿250, that "not fair" feeling hits right away.

The fix: split by item

Each person pays for what they actually ordered, then service charge and VAT are spread proportionally. It's more transparent and much fairer.

You ordered
฿120
Friend ordered
฿880

Result: light eaters pay less, heavy eaters pay more.

Service/VAT example, step by step

Example (to make it concrete): subtotal ฿1,000, service 10%, VAT 7%

Step 1: Subtotal
฿1,000.00
Step 2: Service 10%
฿100.00
Step 3: VAT 7% on (subtotal + service)
฿77.00
Step 4: Grand total
฿1,177.00

Hanbo then allocates each person's share based on your chosen split method and gives you a clear transfer summary.
